Materials Engineering Technology
Go to the 2MATE Student Guide
Materials technicians analyze and create materials for other engineers to use in their products. Materials technicians carry out hardness, tensile, compression or nondestructive tests, or special problem-solving projects that require failure analysis. Other duties may entail preparing or examining samples under a microscope, using materials specifications or blueprints, or working out heat-treating procedures. The Penn State Materials Technology program places a unique focus on powder metals, ceramics, and composites.
Interested students may enter a concurrent program in both Materials and Mechanical Engineering Technology, and complete both degrees within three years.
This program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., www.abet.org.

Students may begin the Materials Engineering Technology degree at Penn State Altoona, Berks, DuBois, Erie, Fayette, Hazleton, New Kensington, Schuylkill, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre, or York. The must conclude the program at Penn State DuBois.
